Shingles Vaccination Service

Shingles is a painful and often debilitating illness caused by the varicella-zoster virus, the same virus that causes chickenpox. If you have had chickenpox, you are at risk for developing shingles later in life. The good news is that a vaccination is available to help prevent shingles and reduce the severity of the illness if you do get it. At our clinic, we offer the shingles vaccination to help protect our patients from this painful condition.

Who Should Get the Shingles Vaccination?

The shingles vaccination is recommended for adults age 50 and older, as the risk of developing shingles increases with age. It is also recommended for individuals who have certain medical conditions that may increase the risk of complications from shingles, such as:

  • Cancer
  • HIV/AIDS
  • Organ transplant

If you are not sure if you should get the shingles vaccination, our professionals can help you determine if it is right for you based on your age, medical history, and other factors.

How Does the Shingles Vaccination Work?

The shingles vaccination works by helping your body build immunity to the varicella-zoster virus. It is usually given as a single injection in the upper arm, and a booster dose may be recommended after several years. While the vaccination is not 100% effective at preventing shingles, it can greatly reduce the risk of getting the disease and can help to reduce the severity of the illness if you do get it.
